Spring 2014 Trends

Fun DIY Gift Ideas

Sunday, April 20, 2014

So it's finally that time. Yes, I'm talking about festival season! Sadly, I wasn't able to go to Coachella this year. However, I've been keeping track of everything Coachella related. From the performances to concert-goers and their fashion choices, I've got you covered right here, right now!

Fashion

What better way to start off this post than with the Queen of Coachella herself? Vanessa Hudgens is absolute perfection. Every year I look forward to seeing Vanessa's outfits because she's always killing it! The reason why she's my favorite is because she truly captures the essence of what the whole Coachella festival is about: good vibes and good times :)

Another one of my favorites from Coachella this year was Rita Ora. Before heading to NYC, Rita was spotted weekend one at Coachella rocking this flirty see-through maxi dress. Along with her signature red lipstick, she looked absolutely stunning.

Oh, Katy... I love you, but all I can say is WHY?! From the slime colored hair to her unflattering wardrobe choices, she looks a hot mess. These outfits scream grandma going to the pool with her grandchildren rather than a gorgeous 29 year old at a music festival.

Performances

I don't know about you, but Pharrell's set was one of my favorites this year. I've been a huge fan of his for years. Before his song "Happy" blew up all around the world, I feel like his talent often went unnoticed. Anywho, back to Coachella. Did you see when he brought out Gwen Stefani on stage?! If not, check out the video below. This was Gwen's first performance after having a baby, and that sh*t was bananas!

Ahh, last but not least: EDM. Who doesn't like dance music? DJ's sure know how to put on a good show. All of the lights and special effects gives us concert-goers an unforgettable experience. Check out Calvin Harris performing his hit song "Summer" here:

Sound Off!

Who were your favorite performances at Coachella this year? Whether if you were actually there to experience it (I'm so jealous, btw haha) or if you just kept yourself up to date with YouTube like I did, I wanna hear from you! As always, thank you for reading. I'll try my best to post more often for you all.

Hey everyone! I don't know about you, but for me it feels so good to say that Spring is FINALLY here! Although the weather here in NYC is a bit bipolar, I'm still very excited for this upcoming season. During Fashion Week I gained a bunch of inspiration from many talented designers. I would love to get the chance to wear any of those designs I saw on that runway, but I don't have that kind of money. If you're in a similar situation, then you're definitely in the right place! You don't have to spend thousands of dollars to look good. Today I put together some of my favorite looks from Fashion Week along with some alternative pieces so that you can rock a similar look for a fraction of the original price! Enjoy :)

At New York Fashion Week, Nigerian designer Maki Oh wow'd me with her fun and sporty collection. I instantly fell in love with her interesting cut outs and amazing silhouettes. Since crop tops and sporty clothing seem to be a huge trend this season, I decided to start this post off with one of her looks below:

Maki Oh Spring 2014 - Get The Look

Another huge trend I've been seeing amongst several designers are matching two piece sets, which I'm loving btw! Whether it's a print or a solid color, I find this trend to be extremely cute. Throwing on these sets will instantly give a very clean and effortless look. Check out this look from the Nicole Miller Spring 2014 fashion show and see how you could recreate this look for much less:

Guess who's back.. back again? Lizzie's back, tell a friend. Haha, sorry I've been MIA! I've been pretty busy lately. However, I've decided that I'm going to commit to this blog and post every Wednesday and Sunday. (YAY!)

Anywho, I'm sure you've all heard of WCW. (Women Crush Wednesday) I normally post my girl crushes on instagram and twitter, but for the sake of this blog I've decided to switch things up a bit. Say hello to the newest edition to my blog: STYLE CRUSH WEDNESDAYS! Every week I'll be posting a few pictures of females whose style inspires me most. Without further ado, here are my style crushes for this week:

First up is..

Selena Gomez

As you could have probably guessed by my Best Dressed list for 2013, I'm a huge fan of Sel's style. More specifically, her street style. Her candid photos are probably my favorite photos of her because she always looks amazing. These candids show off her super cute and laid back style. The best part is that most of these outfits could easily be recreated with anything you have in your closet!

Next up...

Nazanin Mandi

Ah, the beautiful Nazanin Mandi. If you're not familiar with her, I'm guessing you live under a rock. She is a model who is also the girlfriend to the R&B singer Miguel. I've been following her on both instagram and twitter for a while, and I'm pretty much obsessed. What I admire about her style is that it's very similar to mine.. fun and edgy. She's not afraid to push the limits when it comes to fashion, and I don't blame her. With a face and body like hers, I would too.

Lastly...

Kylie Jenner

Everyone is always talking about Kendall, but I personally prefer Kylie. (Please don't hate me! lol) Although she tends to dress a lot older than her age, I think she looks fab. Even big sister, Kim looks to her for fashion advice!

& that concludes this week's picks for SCW. Let me know what you think of this new segment. Should I continue it? As always, thanks for reading. xo, Lisette M.

Hey everyone! I have a really fun post for you guys today. Do you ever go out shopping and come home with some item and think, "Why did I buy this? I don't even have anything to with it!" It happens to me all the time. Especially when it comes to prints. Now anyone who knows me personally, knows that I LOVE to wear prints. Simple plain tops bore me so I need to switch things up every once in a while. If you're like me and have trouble deciding what to wear with that funky new top without looking like a complete fool, then you're in luck! I put together a few sample outfits on how I would style these unusual prints and turn them into something completely wearable. Enjoy!

How To Style: Prints

The key to styling prints is by keeping everything else simple. Now I know this may seem like an obvious tip, but some people see one print and start going crazy with it. If you're going to wear a print from head to toe, at least make it the same print. You don't wear a floral top with striped pants and a pair of leopard flats, that's just ridiculous. Once again, when wearing a print keep everything else neutral. You want to let the design of your shirt or pants be the focal point of your outfit, or else it defeats the purpose. Plus, it's a lot easier on the eye!

SOUND OFF: What's your favorite print at the moment? Comment below!

Hey lovelies, thanks for checking out my blog. As February 14th is right around the corner, I've decided to put together a few outfits to give you all a little inspiration for Valentine's Day this year. I know some people don't even like to consider Valentine's Day an actual holiday, but let's face it.. us girls like to love to find any reason to dress up, and this is one of them! Whether you have a Valentine or not, there's no reason why you should let that bring you down. If you're gonna look good for someone, look good for yourself! If you look good, you'll feel good.. trust me ;)

Casual Wear

V-Day Outfit Ideas: Casual

These outfits are perfect for those who might not be going anywhere, but just don't want to stay in their pajamas all day long either. With a few staple pieces, you can put together a cute outfit without even having to try so hard. A blazer is a very easy way to dress up any regular top and is also very comfortable. Pair one of your oversized tops with your favorite jeans and there you go, a very comfy and effortless look! Last but not least, don't forget to accessorize. Accessories add that extra umph to any plain outfit.

Going Out

V-Day Outfit Ideas: Going Out

 Were you invited to your best friend's annual Valentine's Day party? Is your Valentine taking you out for a dinner and a movie? Do you just feel like wearing a dress? If you answered yes, then you might want to try some of the looks pictured above. The beauty of dresses is that they come in all cuts and styles. From maxi dresses to cocktail dresses, there are so many to choose from! Looking for a dress? I created a list of my favorite stores here, where I'm almost 100% sure you'd find something you like!

Nice Weather

V-Day Outfit Ideas: Warm Weather

If you're lucky enough to live in a warm environment, I hate you. Haha, just kidding! Living in New York I can't exactly wear what I want because it's snowing almost every other day.. Summer please hurry up! Anywho, if you're having a warm Winter, then these looks above are definitely worth trying. They're pretty versatile so you can wear them out anywhere. I tried to include the traditional Valentine's Day color scheme (reds, pinks, white/black) to really get you in the spirit. I paired almost every outfit with heels, but you could definitely make the look your own and wear flats instead. Go with whatever makes you feel most comfortable! :)

As we all know, Valentine's Day is quickly approaching and the pressure to find the PERFECT gift is on. However, shopping for your loved one shouldn't be so stressful! Are you tight on money? No problem! Remember the saying, "It's the thought that counts?" Well it's true. You don't need to spend hundreds of dollars on a gift (unless you have that type of money, then go right ahead!) Even though flowers and chocolates are always a great traditional gift to get someone, there's a lot more that you can do with those things to create a really cute and personalized gift for them. Whether it's your mother, girlfriend, boyfriend, aunt, cousin, dad, uncle, grandma, or daughter you're shopping for, I've put together a list of my favorite DIY (do-it-yourself) projects for Valentine's Day that are guaranteed to make your loved ones smile. Let's not forget that you'd be saving a whole lot of money too! Enjoy :)

Gifts for: HER

{Movie Night}

Although most people may feel obligated to go out on Valentine's Day, don't forget the true meaning of this day! You don't need to make some reservations at a fancy restaurant to enjoy yourselves. I can't speak for everyone, but I personally LOVE to lay down and watch movies, something you can't exactly do at a movie theater. For this cute little DIY basket all you need is a cozy blanket, her favorite snacks (popcorn, nachos, chocolate,etc.) along with her favorite movie or movie that she has been wanting to see forever! If you're really feeling romantic, you can also add some scented candles to set the mood ;) Not only is this idea super simple and inexpensive, it's also a great thoughtful gift that proves how much you know her!

{Candy Bouquet}

Alas! The perfect gift for that special someone with a major sweet tooth! I have been seeing these candy bouquets everywhere lately. There are many stores that sell them already made, but they want like $50 per bouquet which is crazy! Why not just make it yourself? Although it may seem a bit time consuming, it would be worth it in the long run. The benefits of making it yourself is the fact that you could personalize the vase and save a whole lot of money. Most of the supplies needed to make this bouquet can be found at your local dollar store. How's that for a bargain?
Here's what you'll need:
  • A mason jar, glass vase, or tin can.
  • Ribbon or bow (optional)
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Barbeque Skewers
  • and of course, CANDY!
Now that you have all your supplies, click here to watch how to put all of this together! (skip to 8:05)

Gifts for: HIM

{Chocolate Covered Strawberries}

 They say the way to winning a man's heart is through is stomach, and they're absolutely right! Ladies, it's time to show case your gourmet skills. Guys often buy their special lady chocolate covered goodies, why not return the favor? If fruits are his thing, then this gift idea would be a sweet little surprise.

{Hanging Chess Board}

Okay so this gift isn't exactly Valentine's Day themed, but it is super cute and creative! If you're feeling a bit crafty, you can consider making one of these for your old man dad or possibly even your boyfriend if he's into chess. This hanging chess board is bound to stir up some conversation and I'm sure they'd love it! Learn how to make this DIY chess board here!

{DIY Card Book}

Alright, this is the cheesy gift we've all been waiting for: 52 things I love about you. As cheesy as this may be, it is extremely thoughtful. Taking the time out to actually think of 52 reasons why you love that special someone shows how much you care. Yes, you could buy a Hallmark card with some cute saying on it, but this DIY project allows you to personalize it. I personally think it means more too since you actually wrote it from the heart. You don't need to write a whole story, just cute little sayings or insiders you have with that person will definitely put a smile on his face as he reads through them!
Here's what you'll need:
  • A deck of cards
  • Hole puncher
  • Ribbon
  • Scissors
  • Stickers
  • Glue
  • Pen or Marker
  • Construction Paper
Remember, creativity is key! Have fun with it. Thank you all for reading, hope you have a great Valentine's Day. P.S. if you actually do end up trying some of these ideas, let me know in the comments below. Feel free to tweet them or tag me in them on twitter or instagram (@ohsnapitzlizzie). I'd LOVE to see your pics!

As a continuation to my last post: Best & Worst Dressed FEMALES of 2013, here are some of the best dressed male celebrities as well as those who need a little bit more help. Please remember that just because I consider someone "worst dressed" does not mean that I don't like them as an artist. Everything said below is based off my personal opinion. Thanks for reading!
- Lisette M.

 #1:

I know many of you may remember Avan Jogia from the hit Nickelodeon show, Victorious. Although Victorious was pretty much Avan's breakout role, his newest role as Danny Desai on Twisted showcases how talented he REALLY is. I've had my eye on him for the past couple of years and have come to the realization that he has an amazing sense of style. Avan is one of those guys who could literally throw anything on and still look hot handsome!

  #2: Kanye West

Okay, anyone who knows me personally knows that I'm not a very big fan of Kanye. However, I can't deny his talent nor his incredible taste in fashion. His style has changed and progressed over the years and I love it. Also, can I just address the fact that he does a great job dressing Kim too. Let's be honest, we all know that Kim never dressed this stylish until after she started dating Mr. West. Props to them.

& The Worst Dressed...

John Mayer

I like you John, but that suit has to go. It's a nice shade of blue, but it is just a bit much.. don't you think? Overall, he has been slacking when it comes to fashion. Appearance isn't everything, but at a red carpet event you should try a bit harder. At the end of the day, who am I to judge? Katy Perry is in love with him, so he's still winning.

Riff Raff

I'm trying not to laugh while writing this, but seriously man.. what are you wearing?! You see, Riff Raff is a pretty funny character. Personality wise I think he's hilarious. He has a very unique style, one that isn't exactly considered fashionable. As strange as it may sound, his style actually suits him. So in a way, it's acceptable.. at least for him.

Who do YOU think should have made the list? Let me know your opinions in the comments below!
